meaning of the context, try to translate well, sometimes no

rule has to be applied, sometimes common sense works. For

example, here is a sentence:


"Jacob along with his parents are/is coming."



This is a questing of Syntax. According to the rule, we apply
verb according to the first subject. When two subjects are


connected with "along with", the correct verb should be 'is'.

Now, easier method is to translate the given sentence into

standard Hindi neglecting the respect with which we give in

Hindi language. It’s clear that the main subject is Jacob not

his parents so it is obvious that it should be definitely singular

i.e. 'is'.


Let’s take another example, there are two sentences as

follows:






i) "Fifty thousand rupees is/are a good amount."


ii) "Fifty thousand rupees is/are given to him."


Apart from the rules, let’s seek an easier way, translate these

into standard Hindi


Now suppose we have a sentence of narration.


We have to change the given sentence into indirect form.


He said to me, “You are a good person"


Now the rules are there, according to the rules we will change

"said to" into told and we will put the conjunction "that" and
