North American clog dancing is a high-energy amalgamation -- bringing together the many dance traditions of the European immigrants settling in the eastern mountains of a younger United States. In ยท addition, the dance form clearly was enriched by exposure to African and Native
American traditions. These pieces hope to create a feeling of care-free and lively
diversion, of raucous revelry, and of rhythmic exuberance. The dancers represent individuals who have difficult lives, but have put it all aside (at least for an evening) to enjoy friends and footstompin'.
