Restoring Sight
For several years, Hornsea District Lions Club have been twinned with the Lions Club of Dharan in Nepal. During this time, financial support had been given to assist three major aid projects.
Two of these included providing food and blankets for the elderly. The third and most recent, was to arrange for cataract operations for 100 local people.
The conditions in which these operations took place were, to say the least, very basic. It was an amazing achievement for a club in their position and Hornsea Lions are very proud to be involved with it.
The Club recently had the pleasure of hosting by LP Sanjib Dahal and Lion Amik Shrestha from Dharan for a two day visit (organised by Past President Alan Gray of Rutland Lions Club). They were able to show them the tourist sites in the local area, including Beverley Minster and Flamborough (where Dads Army was filmed).
They were able to attend Hornsea’s regular Club meeting and spoke of their gratitude for the assistance given to them. As a result of this visit, it is the intention of Beverly Westwood Lions to twin with them as well.
LP Jenny Eldred and twinning Officer Mel Watson presented them with a Friendship Banner after receiving Friendship Scarves from them.
