A Thank You From LIBRA
LCIF awards a grant of over £26,000 to fund the Haematology Department at King’s College Hospital, London
The Lions International Blood Research Appeal (LIBRA) has been awarded a grant of £26,860 from the Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF) after putting forward a successful grant application for match funding. The grant will help LIBRA to cover the cost of equipment required for a new Ambulatory Transplant Unit on the Davidson Ward at King’s. In total, Trustees have agreed to provide the hospital with £53,720 of funding to ensure
the best possible equipment is available for outpatient care.
Patients with blood cancers including leukaemia will benefit from access to the new unit as it will be well equipped to diagnose and monitor those who are undergoing outpatient chemotherapy treatment and/ or radiotherapy, prior to and following a bone marrow or stem cell transplant.
Many patients will attend daily for treatment with chemotherapy as part
of their transplant protocol, blood checks, transfusions and any other care which is required as part of the transplant process. The unit will also decrease time required for
inpatient stay.
