Clevedon lions
Clevedon Lions held its second Bandstand Bonanza on a sunny August Saturday to raise funds for the Freewheelers Blood Bikes charity.
The event takes place by the town’s seafront Bandstand overlooking the Bristol Channel.
Various games, including the 'Guess the Number of Balloons in a Car' competition and Clevedon Lions Kids Mini Roller Coaster, encouraged locals and visitors to the seafront to donate. At the Club's business meeting, £600 was donated to the bikers who deliver emergency blood and vital medical supplies in the area.
Eric the Lion was in attendance,
but fortunately wasn't needed for an urgent delivery!

Adding to the atmosphere from start to finish, there was live music in the marquee with strong performances throughout from thirteen local bands and solo musicians. The mid-afternoon spectacle of the Tug of War contest proved extremely popular with the crowd shouting encouragement all the way to the grunting and straining teams. The Market Rasen Old Boys ultimately prevailed, winning cases of beer sponsored by a local brewery but, such was the impression made by all participating teams that, after the event, many of the children grabbed the rope and held their own impromptu contests.
The success of the Festival means that a considerable sum of money was raised and this will allow Caistor Lions to help and support many more local good causes. None of this would have been possible without the generous sponsorship of so many local businesses, for which the Lions are extremely grateful. Also coming in for praise are the bar staff from the local pub and others who came to help Lions members keep pace with demand at the bar; again, a big thank you to all of them.

Romford Lions Club was only too pleased to be invited back to the St Peters Church Vintage Car Show, a biannual event in aid of the London Air Ambulance. The miniature train was a great attraction with children; some who had brought their parents along for the ride too, were left queueing for their turn. Even Mr Bean (look-a-like) with Ted wanted a go but with his ‘track record’ he was relegated to the carriage.
