 Alok K. Verma to be new Delhi Police chief


 Director General (prisons) Alok Kumar Verma will replace B.S. Bassi as the Delhi
Police Commissioner on March 1.
 The Ministry of Home Affairs had sent three names to the CCA, which picked Mr.
Verma, a 1979-batch officer and the senior-most among the three IPS officers.





 Aamir’s foundation to take blue gold message to


masses in Maharashtra

 Actor Aamir Khan and his wife Kiran Rao have started Paani Foundation, a not-
for-profit company whose main objective will be to communicate, impart
knowledge and bring about a change in outlook at the grassroots level on water
conservation and watershed management.

 Paani will work with the Maharashtra government towards solving the water
crisis in the State.





 China sends missiles to contested island


 China has deployed an advanced surface-to-air missile system to one of the
disputed islands it controls in the South China Sea, Taiwan.
 Taiwan Defence Ministry spokesman Major General David Lo told Reuters the
missile batteries had been set up on Woody Island.
 The island is part of the Paracels chain, under Chinese control for more than 40
year but also claimed by Taiwan and Vietnam.






 Ringing Bells’ smartphone to cost Rs. 251

 Noida-based smartphone maker Ringing Bells is set to unveil India’s most

affordable smartphone, priced at Rs. 251, a move that is set to disrupt the
booming Indian mobile handset market.
 The 3G handset, Freedom 251, features a 4-inch display, Qualcomm 1.3-GHz
quad-core processor and 1 GB RAM, according to details shared by the company.
 t features a 3.2-MP rear and a 0.3-MP front facing camera and a 1,450-mAh

battery.
