Letters To The Editor
Dear Lions,
I wish to pass on to the Lions of MD 105 my heartfelt thanks on behalf of 2600 families in India who have benefited from the 1-2-4 program. Perhaps you may consider putting this letter in your Lion Magazine so the Lions can all be thanked. When I first approached PID Phil Nathan and asked him to meet with Lord Raj Loomba and see if the MD 105 council would support a program to assist widows in India, Phil agreed to help.
PCC David Firth and LCIF Chairman PCC Geoff agreed to organize the program (with Phil), supported by the MD 105 Council and the Lions of MD 105, with an initial target of 1000 machines.
The target number of machines was increased to 2000 at a dinner at the House of Lords. The invitation was extended by Lord Raj Loomba to attend World Widows Day celebrations. Attending that dinner was myself and PID Phil Nathan with our wives.
Lord Raj Loomba was very excited to be working with the Lions of MD 105 together with LCIF and the concept of 1-2-4 was conceived.
The program was recently launched at the British High Commission in Delhi India. Vice President Naresh and international Director Aruna Oswald were also in attendance. The number had grown to 2600 families by this stage.
Without the help of PID Phil and the cooperation of PCC David
Firth and LCIF Chairman PCC Geoff supported by the 105 Council and the Lions of 105 this program would not have eventuated. Now 2600 families in India will be able to be lifted out of poverty.
Thank you MD 105
Barry Palmer AO
International President 2013/2014
Dear Editor,
I’m new to Lionism. Having assisted with forming and registering our new Club in January, Maghull & District Lions Branch Club has increased in members and is now well known throughout the areas we serve.
I have been involved with the voluntary sector for over 35 years, so don’t wish any members to feel I’m a young whippersnapper. However, Maghull & District Lions boasts a rapidly growing membership with currently an average age of 38. After 10 months we will be Chartered as a Club in our won right!
Imagine my despair when I excitedly opened the latest edition of Lion and was enthused by the things that were going on around the world in this amazing organisation I’m now a member of, until I read the letters page!
