The third generation computers used ICs, the use of IC minimized
the size and cost of the systems.
In the beginning, magnetic core memories were used. Later they
were replaced by semiconductor memories (RAM & ROM).
Concept of microprogramming was introduced.
High level languages were standardized by ANSI e.g. ANSI
FORTRAN, ANSI COBOL
Instead of punched cards and printouts, users interacted with
third generation computers through keyboards and monitors
and used an operating system.
