The third generation computers used ICs, the use of IC minimized
the size and cost of the systems.



 In the beginning, magnetic core memories were used. Later they
were replaced by semiconductor memories (RAM & ROM).

 Concept of microprogramming was introduced.



 High level languages were standardized by ANSI e.g. ANSI
FORTRAN, ANSI COBOL


 Instead of punched cards and printouts, users interacted with
third generation computers through keyboards and monitors

and used an operating system.
