VALORIZATION AND PROMOTION OF THE GEOMORPHOLOGICAL HERITAGE IN
SABUGAL MUNICIPALITY (PORTUGAL)

RESUMO

O objectivo primordial deste trabalho é dar a conhecer à comunidade científica o património
natural do município do Sabugal, no sentido de o conservar e valorizar. Pretende-se apresentar o
seu enquadramento e localização, bem como os factores de ordem geológica e geomorfológica
que lhe estão inerentes e, ainda, enunciar algumas actividades que podem contribuir para a sua
conservação e valorização.
A metodologia assenta num exaustivo trabalho de campo de forma a identificar e inventariar o
património geomorfológico existente, assim como fazer uma análise geomorfológica da área
para uma melhor compreensão do significado científico e pedagógico dos 14 sítios de interesse
geomorfológico identificados.

ABSTRACT

The objective of this work is to inform the scientific community about the natural heritage of
the municipality of Sabugal, in order to preserve and to enhance it. We intend to present its
environment and location, as well as the geological and geomorphological factors that are
inherent and also to present some activities that can contribute to their conservation and
enhancement.
The methodology is based on a detailed fieldwork in order to identify and inventory the existing
geomorphological heritage, as well as to make a geomorphological analysis of the area for a
better understanding of the scientific and educational significance of the 14 sites of
geomorphological interest identified.

1. INTRODUÇÃO

Ligado anteriormente a valores de índole cultural da história, o conceito de
património está agora provido de uma maior flexibilidade e abrangência. Hoje, são

também considerados os elementos naturais, o que constitui um sinal de modernidade
que levou à transformação do conceito tradicional de património (CARNEIRO, 2004).
